Marcia Monareng, born 12 January 1995, is a South African entrepreneur. She is the founder and CEO of Millennial Mindset Media, a digital agency that aims to uplift the youth through an avant-garde approach to digital marketing. Born in Springs, in the east of Johannesburg, Marcia graduated at one of Africa’s top universities (the University of the Witwatersrand) in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Media and Psychology. Here, she was awarded membership into the Golden Key Honour Society for being a part of the top 15% academic achievers in her faculty.

With 4 years’ experience in the digital industry, she has worked with big corporations like DStv, Bayer, the South African Music Awards, the Gauteng Sports Awards, Menlyn Maine Central Square, South African Traditional Music Awards, Menlyn Mall, Forest Hill City, Tiger Brands, Goldi Chicken, and Southgate on various successful digital marketing campaigns. During this period, she was employed in start-ups which accelerated her growth as she often had to wear many hats. She was responsible for multiple tasks such as strategy, content conceptualisation, content creation, liaising with clients as well as attending brand events for live posting on social media.

Marcia is no stranger to entrepreneurship, as both her parents own their own businesses — her mother runs a kota business and her father is a mechanic. Her interest in entrepreneurship was sparked from a young age, with the result being the birth of Millennial Mindset Media.

Millennial Mindset Media was founded in 2017 during Marcia’s period as a freelancer. The vision for the company was sparked by her passion for creating inclusive spaces for black women creatives. The rising unemployment and lack of flexibility in the South African digital media sphere inspired Marcia to create a digital agency based on a model that would center young creatives, without requiring extensive years of experience from them prior to giving them a job opportunity. It is for this reason that Millennial Mindset Media works on a freelancer model — to promote flexibility, allow employees to work remotely, and to give young creatives an opportunity to gain the necessary experience needed to thrive in the Media industry.

Marcia’s growth mindset and willingness to learn allows her to continue innovating Millennial Mindset Media’s company model, resulting in a dynamic company that is always ahead of the curve. Through focusing on young talent and breaking the stereotypes associated with being a millennial, Marcia aims to forge a path that has never been followed before in the South African digital media industry. She aims to build a sustainable organization that goes beyond being profitable, a company that challenges the status quo, creates new narratives, and has a positive impact in society.
